Funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), and in collaboration with the UKRI Environmental Biotechnology Innovation Centre (EBIC), the EngBio4Env Doctoral Focal Award (DFA) will train 52 PhD students to drive transformative environmental change.
For those interested in pursuing research at the interface of engineering biology and environmental sustainability, a list of PhD projects aimed at developing innovative solutions for pollution remediation, resource recovery, environmental monitoring, biosecurity, and clean growth is now available.
EngBio4Env is part of the TechExpert pilot offering stipends of £31,805 for students eligible for home fee status.
The programme offers:
- Fully funded PhD studentships
- Interdisciplinary training in engineering biology, AI, systems biology, environmental modelling, and policy engagement
- Placements and collaborations with 25+ industry and government partners
- International networking opportunities
- Career pathways across academia, industry, entrepreneurship, and the public sector
Led by Cranfield University, the programme brings together expertise from Brunel University of London, Newcastle University, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Southampton.
