The Environmental Biotechnology Innovation Centre (EBIC) has launched its Flexible Funding call for 2026, designed to accelerate the translation of cutting-edge research into real-world impact. Funded by UKRI , the programme supports interdisciplinary projects tackling some of the most pressing environmental challenges.
Funding is available for projects focused on:
• Environmental monitoring and biosensing
• Pollution mitigation and bioremediation
• Water and wastewater treatment
• Resource recovery and the circular economy
• Sustainable industrial processes
• Engineering biology policy and regulation
• Public engagement and understanding of biotechnology
Funding available
• Up to £150k for single-discipline projects
• Up to £250k for cross-disciplinary projects
• Project durations typically between 6–24 months
Who can apply?
The lead applicant for the Flexible Funding must be involved in EBIC, however, industrial and external collaborations are welcomed.
