The AF Working Group is working on follow‑on outputs from its Anaerobic Fermentation workshop, with a detailed outcomes report and a WG Position Statement to be published later in 2026. In parallel, the WG has been carrying out small-scale proof‑of‑concept studies investigating chemical‑free product extraction as a means to facilitate selective recovery of VFAs and ammonia from fermentation broth. This work also highlights key integration requirements between fermentation, electrochemical pH control, and downstream separation. A technical report on this study will be available in 2026. WG Co-Lead Dr Yue Zhang noted that these activities underpin the WG’s aim to enhance resource recovery efficiency while reducing reliance on external chemical inputs.
The WG also plans to host a webinar on biorefinery concepts and initiatives –Â watch out for more information soon!
