  • NBIC: Biofilm Engineering Workshop

30th April 2019, EICC, The Exchange, Edinburgh The National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC) is holding its second industry academic workshop on the subject of unmet needs in Biofilm Engineering. The field concerns the uses of biofilms at the interface with engineering and process applications. The workshop will look at how to harness the benefits of biofilms from knowledge of their composition, function, ecology and evolution. This includes developing and improving engineered platforms and solutions e.g. wastewater, biotechnology, resource recovery from wastewater, microbial fuel cells, aerobic and anaerobic bio-refinery. The scope for this theme also includes precision tools for microbial community engineering using synthetic biology.

  • IWA: 16th World Congress on Anaerobic Digestion

23-27th June 2019, Delft, the Netherlands
The theme of the 16th issue of the AD conference is “Accelerating natural cycles with anaerobic digestion.” We accelerate natural cycles from small to large scale on sewage,  sludge, manure or agrowaste. We increasingly treat industrial wastewater anaerobically, and these engineered digestion systems allow recovery of energy and resources including carbon and nutrients. AD16 will further strengthen this evolution, by bringing together and activate debate across the multiple disciplines needed to understand the processes related to anaerobic digestion.
