The Better Water for All Network+ invites you to a webinar on Nature Based Solutions in Action:
From water treatment to ecosystem services
The speakers are Dr Tao Lyu of Cranfield University and Dr Katherine Pond from the University of Surrey.
Synopsis: Nature-based solutions (NbS), such as constructed wetlands, sustainable drainage systems, and river restoration, are increasingly applied in water and wastewater management due to their cost-effectiveness and capacity to deliver co-benefits, including biodiversity enhancement and carbon sequestration. Recent research has also demonstrated that NbS can effectively attenuate emerging biological and chemical micropollutants, e.g. antimicrobial resistance (AMR) determinants and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), thereby safeguarding aquatic environments at the catchment scale. Although these invaluable benefits are leveraged from nature, realising their full potential for specific targets requires appropriate design, adaptation, and maintenance of NbS. These aspects are often under-emphasised in practice, creating a continuing need for robust evidence and confidence among regulators and policy makers.
This webinar has the double objective of both informing an audience and being part of the formation of a Working Group on Nature Based Solutions within the Better Water for All Network+. This Working Group aims to bring together researchers, water utilities, regulators, consultants and third-sector organisations to address key scientific, technical, and governance challenges associated with NbS deployment. It will provide a collaborative platform to exchange evidence, identify priority research gaps, foster interdisciplinary partnerships and co-develop funding opportunities aligned with the Network+ themes.
If you are on or near University of Surrey Campus you are welcome to join the event in person in Room 40AA03 (Room 40 on 3rd floor of AA/Thomas Telford Building)
