EPSRC is calling for grant applications to conduct research in nature-based engineering, defined in EPSRC’s Tomorrow’s Engineering Research Challenges report as developing systems and technologies inspired by nature.
Teams must include two or more researchers from different areas and at least one early career researcher (ECR) and/or postdoctoral research assistant (PDRA). Projects can run up to two years, with a maximum budget of £481,250 at Full Economic Cost (FEC) including £75,000 for PDRA/ECR development. EPSRC will fund 80% FEC.
Challenges to be addressed include
- achieving net zero
- providing sustainable healthcare
- protecting our environment
- addressing water and food scarcity
- maintaining resilient infrastructure
Projects must be highly novel, risky and exciting and capable of advancing the state of the art in various emerging fields of engineering: Environmental engieering is specifically identified as a relevant area.
