ESWS WG – Microfluidics Conference 2026, a new paper and updated WG report

Members of EBNet’s Environmental Sensors and Wastewater Surveillance (ESWS) WG have recently published an article on a paper-microfluidic platform for infection monitoring and immunity evaluation of viral RNA and antibodies. The paper presents a system that integrates a streamlined processing protocol with a paper-based LAMP assay for viral RNA detection, and an ELISA assay for immunoglobin quantification.

Prof Zhugen Yang, the ESWS WG Lead, said: “Although this system is developed for testing SARS-CoV-2 in saliva samples, rather than for wastewater surveillance, it illustrates the power of such techniques linking microfluidics and low-cost sensor systems”.

Meanwhile Prof Yang and colleagues are working on the programme for the next International Symposium on Microfluidics for Sensing and Sequencing (ISM2S), which will take place in Cambridge on 25-26 Aug 2026. Make a note of the date now, and as soon as more information is available we’ll add it on the ESWS WG News tag.

For more publications in this exciting area, and for the updated report on ESWS WG activities to March 2026, see the WG webpage.
