The Microbial Genomics of Eukaryotes meeting is hosted by Microbial Genomics Deputy Editor-in-Chief Dr Eva Heinz. Microbial Genomics covers the breadth of microbial life including viruses, bacteria, archaea and microbial eukaryotes. Topics range from comparative and functional genomics of model organisms to population-scale evolution, epidemiology and microbiome studies, and to real-world genomics applications with clinical, veterinary or environmental relevance – the latter of particular interest to EBNet members.
The meeting aims to celebrate and showcase the excellent and diverse scientific achievements around genome research on eukaryotic microbes. In conjunction with the event, Microbial Genomics is launching a Microbial Genomics of Eukaryotes collection, to further highlight this area of research.
Prof James Chong of EBNet’s Bioinformatics WG said, “The role and importance of microbial eukaryotes in environmental biotechnology is often overlooked, hopefully both the meeting and new journal section will raise awareness of the critical role these microbes play in environmental systems”.
