Green Fuels summer school – biomethanation and electromethanogenesis

Green Fuels summer school – biomethanation and electromethanogenesis

Date: 27-29 August 2025

Venue: Hersonissos, Crete

Organised by the CarbonNeutralLNG project, this course looks at green fuels, including synthesis of methane from green H2 and biogenic CO, and innovative processes to convert biomass residues into bioLNG.

Through lectures and interactive workshops participants will explore the role of green fuels in supporting decarbonisation goals. The programme covers not only process development but also application of LCA and LCC to assess the sustainability of green fuels and energy solutions.

This summer school is intended for PhD students and researchers eager to gain practical experience in cutting-edge renewable energy technologies.

CarbonNeutralLNG is an EU-funded project, aiming to develop truly carbon-neutral bioLNG by utilising low-cost renewable electricity in an innovative hybrid catalytic process. A key aspect is the use of a process chain that integrates chemical and biological methanation and electromethanogenesis.

The topic of the project and the summer school are close to the recent New Biomethane workshop jointly organised by EBNet’s AD, BES, Bioinformatics and AF WGs.  A summary of the workshop is available here, with the full report due soon.
