Application Deadline: 29th August 2025 to JSPS Tokyo via a host institution in Japan.
Two types of funding are now available to carry out research in Japan, for short-term stays of 14 – 60 days orĀ longer-term stays of 2 – 10 months.
These fellowships must be started between 1 April 2026 and 31 March 2027.
TheĀ Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) is the leading research funding agency in Japan, established by the Japanese Government for the purpose of contributing to the advancement of science. Invitational Fellowships provide the opportunity for researchers based outside Japan to conduct collaborative research activities with leading research groups at Japanese universities and research institutions. Eligible applicants need to be established researchers with an excellent record of achievements. Eligible research fields are not limited. JSPS invitational fellowships can be awarded to the same researcher multiple times.
Japanese nationals who have lived outside Japan for at least 10 years and have been actively engaged in research throughout this period are also eligible to apply.
Applications must be sent to the JSPS Tokyo electronic application system via a host institution in Japan by 29 August 2025. Please be aware the internal deadline set by the host institution will be earlier than this.
