This Fellowship is offered by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), and provides an opportunity for short-term visits by pre- and post-doctoral researchers from the UK (or from EU member states, Switzerland, Norway, the US and Canada and based in the UK or Ireland) to conduct cooperative research with leading groups at Japanese Universities and institutions. The programme is designed to provide first-hand experience of the research and living environment in Japan, whilst expanding academic exchange between Japan and the UK or Ireland.
Awards cover visits of 1 – 12 months. Fellowships must start between 1 Nov 2026 and 31 March 2027.
Applications may come from any field (including but not limited to Computing, Engineering, Health, Biological, Life, Natural and Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences). Applicants must be either within 2 years of receiving a PhD at the time of applying to start the fellowship, or have obtained a PhD from a University outside Japan on or after 1 April 2020.
