The Royal Society’s Career Development Fellowship scheme for 2026 is a 4-year programme that aims to support retention in STEM of researchers from underrepresented groups, particularly those making the transition from postgraduate to early postdoctoral stages.  Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Self-identify as being from a Black heritage, including mixed Black background
  • Have a PhD or have one by the time the funding starts; final year PhD students are eligible to apply but must have passed their viva with minor corrections by the start of the funding.
  • Have less than 24 months post-doctoral experience by the closing date.
  • Applicants must also either be UK nationals or have completed part of their education in the UK through undergraduate, Masters or PhD studies or hold/have held a postdoctoral researcher position in the UK.
