Dr Francis Hassard, the Lead of EBNet’s Water Biofilms Working Group, is keen to hear the sector’s views on how slow sand filters (SSF) can keep pace with tomorrow’s drinking-water challenges.
On 22 January 2025, EBNet brought together researchers, utilities and regulators at the Royal Society of Chemistry, London to discuss the role of SSF in resilient, low-energy treatment. Their collective thinking is now available in three documents:
Position Statement: Toward a Resilient, Low-Energy, and Ecologically-Driven Drinking Water Treatment
Summary of Key Research Priorities for Advancing SSF
Workshop Report on Slow Sand Filter Futures
We invite you to read, reflect and respond. Your feedback will help refine the research agenda and guide future collaboration.
