UK Fertilising Product Regulations: consultation on regulatory reform

The UK Government, including Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland branches, is running a public consultation and call for evidence on the impact of proposed modifications to existing legislation in the UK Fertilising Product Regulations (UK FPR).

The online consultation covers rules on manufacturing and marketing of fertilisers, but does not include fertiliser use and application. The proposed reforms are intended to support innovation and simplify routes to market for new products that are less polluting or less resource intensive.

This subject is highly relevant to EBNet members in the waste and wastewater sectors. Nutrient management is both a major issue for these sectors, and also represents an opportunity for value creation through process modification and innovative downstream processing. The Anaerobic Fermentation WG is considering whether to prepare a joint response: if interested please contact co-Lead Dr Yue Zhang at the University of Southampton.

The consultation closes on 13 May 2026 and can be accessed here.
