Institute of Water Annual Conference 2026 – and thoughts on workforce

Institute of Water Annual Conference 2026 – and thoughts on workforce

Date: 17-18 Sept 2026, London

The Institute of Water (IoW) is holding its 2026 annual conference on the theme Powered by You: Collective Action for a Resilient Water Future. The conference organisers note that:

“The demands on the water sector are significant. Expectations from customers, regulators and communities continue to rise, and the work needed to strengthen resilience is complex and long term. While technology, data and infrastructure all have a role, progress still depends on people – the decisions they make, the way teams work together and how knowledge is shared across organisations”. Speakers drawn from the water industry and elsewhere will endeavour to share relevant examples, experience and insights.

Currently planned sessions include:

  • Is Technology Delivering Resilience — or Just Complexity?
  • What Water Can Learn from Other Critical Industries
  • The Great Water Workforce Debate: Shortage, Perception or Culture Problem?
  • Leading Through Operational Pressure – Fireside Chat with a Senior Leader
  • People Power: Behaviour, Demand and Collective Impact
  • Delivering our Promises to Rebuild Trust
  • Regulation is Our Friend, Not the Enemy

EBNet notes the third session above is relevant to our own observations on workforce issues across the Environmental Biotech sector –  see e.g. The Glamour Factor. While anecdotal information is plentiful, it can be difficult to gather firm data and we look forward to any useful conclusions.
