BBSRC: Bioelectrical Engineering Community Webinar, Tuesday 6 December, 3:30 – 4:30 PM (Responsive Mode Spotlights – UKRI)

BBSRC: Bioelectrical Engineering Community Webinar, Tuesday 6 December, 3:30 – 4:30 PM (Responsive Mode Spotlights – UKRI)

Following the publication of the BBSRC strategic delivery plan, a New Responsive Mode Spotlight mechanism has been introduced to provide simpler and more agile support of certain areas of timely strategic interest, opportunity, or need. BBSRC consider Bioelectrical Engineering to be one of these areas and as such they invite applications throughout 2023 that seek to improve our understanding of:

  • electrochemical processes within cells through metabolism and its control (including modelling to support the predictive part)
  • how controlling electrochemical processes could be used to modify dynamic cellular behaviour (for example, metabolic oscillation) and physiology
  • how the ability to control cellular behaviour via electrochemical processes could be used for biotechnological purposes, including the manufacture of key chemical feedstocks and fuels covering, for example: biohydrogen, ammonia, metals, organic chemical precursors, etc.

This hour-long webinar will introduce and define the area of ‘bioelectricity as a holistic approach to understand diverse microbial cell behaviours’. You will have the opportunity to hear from expert speakers discussing their personal research and what they consider exiting about it, as well as from BBSRC colleagues describing the strategic scope of the opportunity and explaining the application process. A Q&A session at the end will address queries regarding the mechanism, scope, application processes, etc.

We are looking forward to seeing you all there and receiving your applications from now till 27 September 2023 (BBSRC standard research grant – UKRI). In case that you cannot make it, a recording of the webinar will be made available afterwards to those who register.
