The EBNet outreach team put some of their Circular Bio-economy activities on offer at the University of Southampton’s Dragonfly Day. Dragonfly Day is an on-campus day designed for Year 9 female students to encourage young women to consider the benefits of further study and careers in science and engineering. Dragonfly Days are a popular initiative run in partnership with the Outreach team for Year 9 girls from local schools. In addition to our activities, topics included ‘Climate Change and my Home’, ‘Try Tribology’ , ‘X-ray Imaging’ and ‘People like me’, as well as tours of various labs. Eighty girls from eight schools, along with their teachers, participated in the activities. Big thanks to Jess Spurrell who organised a brilliant day which we hope gave the girls an idea of some of the work that women are doing in the STEM sector.
Big thanks also go to Marty Climenhaga for her organisational skills and to Maria Ramos Suarez, Corin Holloway and Lupita Landeros Gonzalez for helping with all the group activities.
