As part of their work on standards, traceability and responsible engineering biology, colleagues from the EBIC Hub have been developing the draft in collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI), GitLife Biotech Ltd and the wider Engineering Biology community.
The work began with a structured process to establish the purpose, scope and intended users of the PAS, and identify key technical, operational and governance issues that the specification needs to address. This was followed by an iterative drafting process, with input from specialist stakeholders across Engineering Biology, biotechnology, standards, metrology, traceability, regulation, provenance, industry and research.
The public consultation stage is intended to widen the range of perspectives, giving the broader community an opportunity to test the clarity, applicability, and completeness of the proposed specification and to identify any issues that may not yet have been captured. Feedback is also welcome if you are satisfied with the document as drafted.
EBIC’s director Prof Frederic Coulon said: “Input at this stage will be particularly valuable in helping to ensure that the PAS is technically robust, internationally relevant and ultimately fit for wider adoption across the engineering biology ecosystem”.
