JSPS Postdoc Fellowship Call for Humanities and Social Sciences

This fellowship is an opportunity for those in our Environmental Biotechnology and Social Sciences WG (EBSS WG), and for other EBNet members with an interest in social sciences or other arts and humanities aspects. It allows researchers based outside Japan to conduct collaborative work with leading groups at Japanese Universities and research institutions, for visits of between 12 to 24 months.

Applicants should be UK residents currently based at a UK university or research institution. The applicant must have have obtained a PhD on or after 2 April 2020; the PhD must be complete at the time of applying.

Eligible research fields must be within the humanities and social sciences.

Funds can cover:

  • Round-trip air ticket
  • Monthly maintenance allowance of 362,000 yen (approximately £1,890)
  • Settling-in allowance of 200,000 yen (approximately £1,000)
  • Overseas travel insurance

A research grant (Grant-in-Aid for JSPS Research Fellow) is available to cover cooperative research-related expenses. An application for this grant is made by the Japanese host researcher through their institution

Fellowships are expected to commence between 1st April to 30th November 2026. Please note that the fellowship may not be divided into multiple stays.
