This year’s Biofilm Week runs from 18-24 Sept 2026. The event is organised by the National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC) and covers biofilms of all types. It is billed as ‘A celebration of all things biofilm!‘ and aims to raise awareness of the economic and physical impacts of biofilms while showcasing cutting-edge research in the prevention, detection, management and engineering of biofilms.
Many EBNet members are already involved in activities for the event, especially those with an interest in the AG and WB WGs. We also have to point out that, while many of the examples given are of negative impacts from biofilms – in everything from dental decay, skin infections, and spread of AMR to biofouling of ships – there is also huge positive potential in envirobmental biotechnology applications: see here for a recent post on the subject, and watch the Theme 2 tag for more items. Why not join in, and help to shift the balance?
