Senior Scientific Officer vacancy- University of Portsmouth

This role within the School of Civil Engineering and Surveying, University of Portsmouth is Full-time, Fixed-term (until 31 March 2025). Apply by 2 February 2022

This is an exciting opportunity to develop a career in wastewater research and innovation through supporting a strategic industrial – academic partnership between the University of Portsmouth and Southern Water. This collaborative Innovation Hub addresses the emerging issues facing wastewater treatment plants at the University’s Environmental Technology Field Station at Petersfield wastewater treatment works, where the successful applicant will be based. The post will involve establishing practical test rigs, undertaking monitoring for water quality and reporting the results to a steering group of University and Southern Water staff. In addition, there is also a requirement to undertake literature reviews and desk studies. The successful applicant will need to be aware of emerging issues in wastewater treatment and the industry structure. The post will also be engaged in translating the outcomes of trials into practical solutions through working with various stakeholders in Southern Water. This will provide a unique opportunity to work on industrially relevant problems in an academic setting.
