5th Bioinference Conference – don’t miss!

The 5th Bioinference Conference will take place at the University of St Andrews from 10-12 June 2026. EBNet’s office team has to admit that, although the subject area is dear to several of our core members, we were not aware of this conference series until the latest IBioIC Newsletter brought it to our attention: our sincere thanks for this excellent tip!

While the Conference has a strong health-related element, it brings together researchers across a range of biological and mathematical fields. Examples of talks that may interest EBNet members include (but are by no means limited to):

  • David Dreifuss (Imperial College London) – Statistical Methods for Wastewater-Based Genomic Epidemiology.
  • Rajneesh Kumar (University of Sussex) – Soil Biodiversity, Ecological Niches, and Climate Change: Modelling Insights from the BIOservicES Project
  • Claus Mayer (Biomathematics & Statistics Scotland) – A p-value combination method for random effects meta-analysis of high-dimensional omics data
  • ..and numerous other omics-related topics

Conference sponsors include the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology, the Society for Mathematical Biology, the Edinburgh Mathematical Society and the Glasgow Mathematical Journal Trust.

Some funding is available to support travel costs for ECR participants, and for members of the Society for Mathematical Biology

The application of mathematics in biological sciences is a hugely fascinating and powerful field, and one that has close links with EBNet’s Microbiology/Engineering theme. We will be following this event closely in future.
