EBNet members recently took part in an international workshop to discuss the latest scientific developments and practical applications in anaerobic digestion (AD) and related technologies. The hybrid event on Anaerobic digestion: Quo Vadis? was organised by the University of Valladolid.
Topics covered included membrane bioreactors for industrial wastewaters; fermentation and chain elongation for high-value products; nutrient recovery from digestates; developments in instrumentation, modelling and control; and molecular biology tools
Amongst the speakers were several of EBNet’s International Advisory Group, including Prof Irini Angelidaki of the Technical University of Denmark, Prof Jules van Lier of Delft University of Technology and Prof Raul Muñoz, Universidad de Valladolid as well as EBNet member Prof Ana Soares of Cranfield University.
Online participants included EBNet’s director Prof Sonia Heaven and members Dr Yue Zhang and Prof Charles Banks. Prof Banks was also director of the Anaerobic Digestion Network (ADNet), EBNet’s predecessor Phase I NIBB.
Dr Zhang said, “This was an excellent workshop. It was great to hear from some of our colleagues who are leading experts in this field, and the topics discussed will feed directly into our work on anaerobic digestion and anaerobic fermentations”.
