The 2026 Coccus Pocus story competition is now open for entries. This year’s theme is microbial therapeutics against pathogens and AMR microbes and their biofilms, so plenty to interest EBNet members.
Participants must submit a short story of 500 to 2000 words. The deadline is 31 October 2026 (Halloween), and the story must have a scary theme. See here for more details in the LinkedIn announcement.
EBNet is sponsoring this year’s competition, which is the 8th in the series and is organised by Dr Georgios Efthimiou of the Hull. Dr Efthimiou is also the newly-appointed Editor-in-Chief of Access Microbiology, and a long-term ambassador for the Microbiology Society.
For information on last year’s competition see here, and for a Microbiology Society podcast and transcript on the competition see HERE.
