This fascinating session is brought to you by Chair: David Tompkins, Aquaenviro

Dr Raul Muñoz, University of Valladolid. Raul is Full Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Sustainable Processes at the University of Valladolid. His main fields of expertise are biological gas treatment, biogas upgrading and wastewater treatment in algal-bacterial photobioreactors.

Dr Raquel Lebrero is Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology at the University of Valladolid, Spain. She is a leading researcher at the Institute of Sustainable Processes, and her main research lines are focused on biological waste gas treatment and valorization and photosynthetic biogas upgrading.

Zongting Cai is a PhD student and Grantham Scholar in Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield, working with Freeland Horticulture Ltd. Their project looks at isolating algae and bacteria strains with novel metabolic capabilities for the biodegradation of specific volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in industrial waste streams. For this purpose, they are particularly interested in the bottom-up constructions of algae-bacteria consortia as well as a better understanding of their shaping biochemical interactions, ecological principles and system theories.
